Make App updating to be on WiFi only 
By doing this all your applications that use to update automatically whenever you ON your data connection would stop unless you are connected to a WiFi network .To do this launch the Google play app on your android phone and navigate to Menu>Settings and click on "Auto-update apps over WiFi only" if you like you can disable app updating entirely by selecting the "Do not auto-update apps" option but it is advisable to tap only on the "Auto-update apps over WiFi only" option.

• Restrict background data 
This will disable apps such as email ,Facebook ,Twitter from running on the background and thereby reducing your data usage.To restrict background data click on menu>settings>data usage>left key> select "Restrict Background Data" and ignore the warnings.

• Avoid Ad supported apps 
Yes you read it right, avoid installing ad supported applications because they consume a lot of your data,instead download their pro (paid)versions.Some of us the android users are too stingy that we don't want the android app developers to eat by buying the pro version of their apps,now that you have seen the bad side of the free ad-integrated apps i guess you will now repent and be buying the paid versions *lol .

• Set data limit 
This is one of the best way to reduce and monitor data usage on your android phone.it notifies you whenever you reach your daily data limit and helps you to be conscious while browsing or downloading

Lets assume now that you bought a monthly 4G data ,you can decide to set a daily data limit of 70MB thereby optimizing your data usage.
